Advent…Morning Has Broken!

My time in recovery from alcoholism and drug use has caused me to be aware of the significance of the morning hours. Here is the time of day where I place myself in the care of God, and petition His help in staying sober one more day. This is vital to the suffering, no matter their addiction, no matter how powerful their hang-up, or how determined their habits, or how deep their hurt. We surrender our will to Him, He lays out the days direction where we walk. As we continue to follow this plan, our path or direction in life becomes evident, for He lights the way.

“The path of the just is like the shining sun that shines brighter unto the perfect day.” Prov.4:18

I have always loved the mornings, but more so today as I follow Christ. I nearly dread to see midday approach. The time of quiet contemplation in solitude, absorbing the ancient text with the determination of a miner panning for gold until at last…He arrives and speaks to me through His Word, a daily advent. He comes to those who search for Him.

And you will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. And I will be found of you, says the Lord”…Jer.29:13,14a

That time of the morning is a spiritual time where putting God first in my day, ahead of my need for food or anything centered on me, and enthroning Him in the rightful place of first, brings the awareness of His daily mercies and great faithfulness. This daily advent, His coming to my call, whether in worship, or in need, opens my eyes to the Eternal Presence that thinks only kindness and love toward me, and wants me to linger there waiting His arrival. This special time I can be so intimate with Abba.(Daddy) David knew the importance of the morning when he was in the wilderness of Judah and wrote this psalm:

“O God You are my God: early will I seek You; my soul thirsts for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water…because Your lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You, thus will I bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands unto Your name.” Ps. 63:1,3

To experience advent, (defined: the coming or arrival of someone important), I must hunger and thirst for His presence. The best I know how to do so is in praise and in adoration that He sent Christ Jesus to us Emmanuel, God with us. The morning hours are a precious time to experience advent, to realize His omnipresence.

“Morning has broken, like the first morning,
blackbird has spoken like the first bird.
Praise for the singing, Praise for the morning!
Praise for them springing fresh from the Word!
Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning
Born of the One Light, Eden saw play.
Praise with elation, praise every morning,
God’s recreation of the first day!
Thanks for reading, God bless and keep you all

  1. This is a wonderful look at that first morning time with God. I know we can come to Him anytime all through the day, and should . ..but there is something special about waking and letting Him have our first thoughts and actions. 🙂 God bless you as you bless us with these advent posts!
